My hatred of all things that has an "i" in front of their name is beginning to wayne.  Today, for those of you who don't know, was the release of the new version of the iPod Nano, and the new iPod Touch.

Up until this point, I have been thoroughly convinced that the iPod was surviving because it was the "popular brand."  It had become mainstream, and everybody wanted one because they were the only person who didn't have one.  There were plenty of better mp3 players on the market, such as my own Sansa e280.  The Sansa has exactly the same amount of memory as the iPod Nano. It was exactly the same size as the iPod Nano, albeit a bit thicker. Not to mention the screen was bigger and it had an FM radio and sound recorder. The biggest thing of all though, was that this bigger screen could play video, which was something that, up until this point, the iPod Nanos have not been able to do.

I don't know what to think now.  The Nano has been completely redesigned.  The screen in now larger than that of the Sansa, it's a whopping 2 inches. (Yes, I know that's still a small screen, but they're mini audio players) It doesnt have FM radio, but i never used that much anyways.  The only thing the new nano doesnt have is a voice recorder (and a radio, but the radio funtion isn't that useful). The Nano doesn't play in landscape either, which is somewhat of a convienience.  The new Nano is, however, 70 dollars more expensive than the Sansa.  8GB Sansas are on Amazon.com for $131.88, while the new Nanos are $200.  The 8GB Sansa costs less than the 4GB Nanos.  Still, the price of the Nano will probably go down eventually.  So Apple is making huge improvements.

The iPod Touch looks interesting as well.  It's basically an iPhone that doesnt have phone service and has Wi-Fi.  They come in 8GB and 16GB models.  They seem pretty nice.

I'm still not completely convinced.  I'll have to play with them sometime, and look into other alternatives besides the Sansa.  We'll see, Apple, we'll see.  I may or may not stop hating you.

the way you wrote makes it sound like the 4 gig is $200 the 4 gig is actually $150 while the 8 gb is $200. the best deal by far is the new 80Gb classic at far less than any other mp3/mp4 player. by thee way, who the heck needs 160GB!!!! (my computer doesnt even hold that much, 40,000 freaking songs, WTF!!!) cheack out Archos players though they r nice
